As we age, our skin naturally loses the collagen and hyaluronic acid that provide structure and volume, leading to hollowed cheeks, thinner lips, and deep facial folds. Dermal fillers offer a non-surgical way to put these signs of aging on pause by restoring that volume and smoothing the skin's surface. At our Baton Rouge practice, we offer a physician-led approach, with every injection performed or overseen by experts who prioritize your safety and a natural, never-overdone look.
Dr. J. Anthony Stephens and our aesthetic team take the time to evaluate your unique anatomy and listen to your goals, ensuring we match you with the right product for your specific needs. Whether you are looking for a subtle refresh or a comprehensive "liquid facelift," you can trust our 25+ years of clinical excellence to deliver results that feel as good as they look.

Dermal fillers are injectable gel substances used to "fill in" wrinkles and replace lost volume in the face's soft tissues. Unlike BOTOX®, which relaxes muscles, fillers work by physically plumping the skin from beneath. Most modern fillers, including JUVÉDERM® and Restylane®, are made of hyaluronic acid (HA), a sugar molecule found naturally in your body that binds to water to keep skin hydrated and voluminous. For those seeking deeper structural support and long-term collagen stimulation, we also offer Radiesse®, a calcium-based filler that provides a firm, lifted effect.

The JUVÉDERM® collection is one of the most trusted HA-based fillers worldwide. Known for its smooth, consistent gel, it is excellent for softening nasolabial folds (smile lines), marionette lines, and adding plush volume to the lips. Products like Voluma® are specifically designed to lift and contour the cheeks, while Volux® can sharpen the jawline and chin.

Restylane® offers a diverse range of formulas tailored to specific facial movements. Because of their unique XpresHAn Technology™, certain Restylane® products are incredibly flexible, allowing for natural-looking expressions in highly mobile areas, such as the mouth. Restylane® is also a premier choice for refining under-eye hollows (tear troughs) and performing subtle hand rejuvenation.

Radiesse® stands apart as a calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) filler. It provides immediate volume and acts as a scaffold that stimulates your body’s own natural collagen production over time. This makes it an ideal choice for patients seeking a significant mid-face lift or a more sculpted look that can last 12 to 18 months or longer.
Your treatment begins with a detailed facial assessment in our comfortable Baton Rouge office. Once your personalized plan is set, the treatment area is cleansed, and a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort. Dr. Stephens or one of our expert injectors then uses a very fine needle or a blunt-tipped cannula, a technique that minimizes bruising and improves safety, to carefully place the filler.
The process is quick and efficient, usually taking less than 45 minutes. You will see an immediate improvement in your facial volume and contours before you even leave our office. Because we favor a conservative approach, we focus on small, meticulous adjustments that respect your natural beauty, ensuring your expressions remain fluid and authentic.

Dermal fillers are incredibly versatile and can address a wide variety of aesthetic concerns. They are most commonly used to smooth smile lines around the nose and mouth and to restore the apple of the cheeks, which often flattens with age. Fillers also treat under-eye hollowness that can make you appear tired, thin lips that have lost their definition, and a receding or weak chin. Additionally, they can be used to camouflage jowls by refining the jawline, creating a more youthful, defined profile.
Dermal fillers allow you to achieve visible rejuvenation with minimal disruption to your daily life.

Ideal candidates for dermal fillers are healthy adults who are concerned about volume loss, deep folds, or thin features. Because HA fillers are made from a naturally occurring substance in the body, they are safe for almost all skin types. During your consultation, we will review your medical history and any medications, such as blood thinners, that might increase your risk of bruising after treatment. We recommend that patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding postpone their injectable treatments. If you are looking for a subtle, sophisticated enhancement, dermal fillers may be the perfect fit.

Dermal fillers are often called "lunchtime" procedures because they require minimal downtime. You may experience some mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site, but these side effects typically resolve within a few days. We provide comprehensive aftercare instructions, including avoiding strenuous exercise, excessive heat (such as saunas), and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours to minimize swelling.
To ensure your results settle perfectly, we advise against rubbing or massaging the treated area for a few days. Our commitment to your care doesn't end when you leave our office; we are always available for follow-up questions to ensure your recovery is as smooth as your results.
While you will see an immediate plumping effect, your final results will materialize over the next one to two weeks as any initial swelling subsides and the filler integrates with your natural tissue. HA-based fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® typically last between 6 and 18 months, depending on the specific formula used and how quickly your body metabolizes the product. Radiesse® results often last even longer due to the stimulation of natural collagen production.
Maintenance is easy. Most patients schedule touch-up appointments once or twice a year to keep their results looking consistent and fresh. By working with a board-certified team that understands the long-term behavior of these products, you can ensure your results remain elegant and natural-looking year after year.

At Stephens Plastic Surgery & Skincare Aesthetics, we believe that non-surgical treatments deserve a surgical level of expertise. Dr. J. Anthony Stephens is a board-certified plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in facial anatomy and reconstructive surgery. This deep clinical background allows our team to perform injections with a level of safety and artistic insight that you won't find at a standard medspa.
We treat our patients like family, offering honest recommendations and meticulous care to ensure a safe treatment and beautiful results.
BOTOX® relaxes the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, such as frown lines and crow's feet. Dermal fillers are used to add volume and smooth static wrinkles, which are visible even when your face is at rest. Often, the best results come from combining both in a "liquid facelift."
Most patients find the procedure very tolerable. Many fillers are formulated with lidocaine (a numbing agent) already in the gel, and we also offer a topical numbing cream. Most patients describe the feeling as a quick pinch or a localized pressure.
Not at our practice. We specialize in conservative enhancements that respect your natural features. Our goal is for people to notice you look refreshed and vibrant, without knowing you had anything done.
The cost of dermal fillers depends on the type of product used and the number of syringes required to achieve your goals. During your consultation, we will provide a clear, honest quote. We also offer flexible financing through CareCredit®, PatientFi®, and Cherry® to make your aesthetic goals accessible.
Yes, HA-based fillers like JUVÉDERM® and Restylane® can be partially or completely dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase if needed. While this is rarely necessary in expert hands, it provides an extra layer of peace of mind for our patients. (Note: Radiesse® is not reversible and must be allowed to metabolize naturally.)
We generally recommend waiting about 24 hours before applying makeup to the injection sites to ensure they have had time to heal and to reduce the risk of infection. If you must wear makeup sooner, we suggest using a clean brush and mineral-based products.
