Breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery designed to increase breast size and improve overall breast shape. This is achieved through the careful placement of breast implants or, in some cases, using the patient's own fat through fat transfer techniques. Breast Implants
Our Baton Rouge patients can choose from saline or silicone implants. Saline breast implants are silicone shells filled with saline solution. Silicone breast implants are silicone shells filled with silicone gel. Saline implants often require smaller incisions and are safer in the event of a rupture. Silicone breast implants can deliver a more natural result, in terms of both touch and appearance. Dr. Stephens will review your options and help you select the best implant type for your goals.
Fat Grafting
If you wish to slim down an area of your body and enhance your bustline in one procedure, fat grafting may be a better option for you. In this procedure, Dr. Stephens can use liposuction to remove fat from the thighs, abdomen, or another area. The fat is then purified and injected into the breasts. This method can also be combined with implants to refine their appearance.
On the day of your surgery, you will be cared for in our AAAASF-accredited surgical center, where your safety is our highest priority. Here is what to expect:
Breast augmentation surgery lasts about one to two hours.
Dr. Stephens will administer general anesthesia so you can sleep comfortably through your procedure.
Dr. Stephens will make incisions in inconspicuous places to minimize scar visibility. Your incisions may be made in the armpit, along the creases under the breasts, or around the areolas.
Dr. Stephens will lift each breast and create a pocket for each implant. Your chosen implant will be inserted either beneath the breast tissue or behind the chest muscle. Dr. Stephens often recommends placing implants behind the chest muscles, as it reduces the risk of capsular contracture and has less interference with mammograms.
After the implants have been inserted and positioned, Dr. Stephens will close your incisions, apply tape, and place bandages.
