Liposuction Baton Rogue

For removing excess fat in problematic areas, liposuction is one of the most popular procedures worldwide. At J. Anthony Stephens Cosmetic and Reconstructive Plastic Surgery, we offer advanced, safe, effective liposuction that produces excellent slimming results and has minimal recovery time.

Located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. J. Anthony Stephens is board certified in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and find out how liposuction can improve your body contours.

What is liposuction?

In some areas of the body such as the thighs and stomach, stubborn body fat does not respond well to diet and exercise. Liposuction is the surgical removal of this excess fat, slimming and improving the contours of the body for a more sculpted, shapely figure.

Although liposuction has many techniques, Dr. Stephens utilizes tumescent liposuction. This procedure involves injecting a solution into the area to be treated. The solution is made up of saline, lidocaine for numbing, and a small amount of adrenaline to reduce bleeding during the procedure. This technique has also been proven to reduce recovery time and limit bruising.

How does liposuction work?

During a typical liposuction procedure in Baton Rouge, Dr. Stephens will create a tiny incision and insert a cannula, which is a hollow tube that is moved back and forth to gently break fat apart. It is then extracted through vacuum suction.

The particular techniques used can depend on the individual as well as the extent of the procedure and the area being treated. During your consultation, Dr. Stephens will discuss your treatment options with you and help you determine which one best fits your cosmetic goals.

Some patients may benefit from minimally invasive liposuction, where the area to be treated is injected with local anesthetic requiring minimal or no sedation. In some cases, the patients actually will stand while the procedure is performed to achieve the best result.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Although liposuction can safely and effectively remove stubborn fat from the body, it is not a substitute for diet and exercise nor is it a solution for weight loss. Liposuction is ideal for men and women who are at or near their target weight and who have areas of excess fat that do not respond to other methods.

During your liposuction consultation in Baton Rouge, Dr. Stephens will evaluate several factors such as your overall health, medical history, cosmetic goals and expectations and determine if liposuction is right for you.

If you are unhappy with any of the following body issues, you are likely a good candidate for our advanced liposuction treatments:

  • Abdomen
  • Waist
  • Hips
  • Buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Knees
  • Upper arms
  • Chin
  • Cheeks
  • Neck

Liposuction slims, trims, and contours areas of the body with excess fat. It is best performed on men or women who have retained good skin flexibility. For older patients or those with less resilient skin, an added skin tightening procedure may be needed.

Personalized care

Dr. Stephens will take all the time needed to speak with you about how to achieve a more attractive body shape. Every person is unique and comes to us with their own questions and concerns. We take great joy in helping our patients look and feel their best and invite you to meet with us at our private Baton Rouge clinic, where you will feel safe and cared for.

What is the liposuction procedure?

The liposuction procedure begins with an injection of a solution composed of saline (saltwater), lidocaine for its painkilling effect, along with a small quantity of adrenaline to decrease bruising and bleeding.

Once this solution is injected, Dr. Stephens, will employ one of two different approaches: suction-assisted lipectomy (SAL) or ultrasonic-assisted lipectomy (UAL). The type of procedure is determined by the quantity of fat that must be removed.

In both methods, a tiny incision is made in an area where they will be hidden once you have healed. In SAL, a cannula (small tube) is inserted and moved back and forth beneath the skin, breaking up the fat layer and suctioning it out. In UAL, ultrasonic energy is used to liquefy the fat before it is suctioned out with a cannula.

How long will the procedure take?

The liposuction procedure may last from one to five hours, depending on the amount of fat being removed. The doctor will use either local anesthesia or general anesthesia, again depending on the size of the area(s) being treated as well as several other factors. We will discuss which method is best for you during your pre-operative consultation.

What is the recovery like?

After liposuction surgery, drainage tubes, compression garments and antibiotics may be needed to facilitate the healing process. Patients are encouraged to walk as soon as they are able, and most of them return to work within a few days. Strenuous activity should be avoided for about a month.

Tumescent liposuction produces less swelling, less bruising, and has a faster healing time. Our patients tell us they love their newly slimmed look!

You will be up and walking shortly after the procedure and can return to work within a few days, but strenuous activity should be avoided until healing has completed. Doctor Stephens will provide you with post-surgical instructions and inform you of any and all risks associated with this procedure.

What can I expect in results?

You will immediately see the results, and your newly slimmed body will continue to improve over the next three months, as all swelling subsides. We make sure that scars are small and inconspicuous, barely visible once you have healed.
